To check out or purchase a copy of this 10 week series contact (316)660-5120 Caregiving ResourcesThe enactment of the Older Americans Act Amendments of 2000 (Public Law 106-501) established an important new program, the National Family Caregiver Support Program. The program was developed by the Administration on Aging of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program calls for all states, working in partnership with area agencies on aging and local community service providers to have five basic services for family caregivers including: InformationInformation for caregivers is provided in a group education setting at such places as health fairs, county fairs, and senior events. Central Plains Area Agency on Aging's Information and Assistance Specialists are available to make presentations at conferences, places of business, and churches or wherever caregivers need the information. Information is provided about what services are available to provide support for caregivers so they can continue in their caregiving role. AssistanceAssistance is provided on an individual basis to caregivers in gaining access to supportive services. Caregivers are welcome to phone or come to the office of any of the Department's on Aging in Butler, Harvey, or Sedgwick County. An Information and Assistance Specialist will be available to provide resources that would meet the individual needs of the caregiver and their loved one. Individual Counseling, Support Groups, and Caregiver Training These services are provided to caregivers to assist the caregivers in making decisions and solving problems relating to their caregiving roles |
| Individual Counseling |
Counseling services provide support, information and problem solving skills to caregivers. The goal is to reduce caregiver stress and provide a higher quality of life. Counseling sessions can be provided at an individual's home, a health related facility or a location convenient for the caregiver.

| Support Groups |
Support groups are held on a monthly basis for caregivers to help alleviate stress and enhance coping shills of those providing care to older adults.

| Training |
Training can be in a group setting or individually in the home. Training can consist of a variety of topics: problem solving, stress reduction, communicating with the physician, coping with behavioral problems and dealing with the physical requirements of caregiving.

| Grandparent |
A support group specifically for grandparents age 60 and older who are raising grandchildren.
|
Respite Care |
Respite care will enable caregivers to be temporarily relieved from their caregiving responsibilities. Respite can be provided in the care receiver's home, or in a formal setting such as an adult day care or nursing facility. A paid caregiver or a volunteer can provide respite.

| Supplemental Services |
Supplemental services can be provided on a limited basis, to complement the care provided by caregivers.

| Flex Service |
This is a flexible service that can be provided to meet the unique individual needs of the caregiver. An example of this service would be to provide bathroom items to make bathing the care recipient safer and easier.

| Transportation |
Transportation is provided for older adults whose caregivers need assistance with this responsibility. This program provides transportation for caregivers visiting loved ones in a hospital, assisted living facility, or nursing facility. This program is only available in Sedgwick County.
