Community Services
Community Services are social services provided in a community setting. They assist adults 60 and over and individuals with disabilities to maintain their independence and help them remain in the community setting such as a house, apartment, or assisted living. CPAAA funds and works with a variety of organizations to provide these and other services in our community. The following are commonly requested community services:
Adult Day Care - An opportunity to provide the caregiver of an older adult 60 and older or a disabled adult 18 or older in a structured setting.
Community Education - Various types of community education are available through CPAAA and can be provided at businesses, churches, clubs, and civic organizations; topics include: services for seniors, caregiving, health and wellness, HIV and older adults, advocacy and more.
Congregate Meal Sites - This program provide a meal to an adult 60 and older at many sites throughout Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick County - Donations are accepted.
Information and Assistance - Unsure about where to begin or what assistance you or the senior in your life needs? Information and Assistance can help by providing one-on-one, phone or in person consultation with a trained professional who will answer questions about services available and provide information and options related to Medicare, housing, in-home services, volunteering, options counseling, caregiving and more.
Kansas Support Services for Elders (KSSE) - Volunteers assist seniors with tasks including mail sorting and check writing.
Legal Services - This program provides consultation on a wide range of civil legal issues.
Medicare Counseling (SHICK) - CPAAA offers trained Medicare counselors who can provide information to individuals on their Medicare coverage as well as assist them with Medicare Part D enrollment.
Mental Wellness - Programs are available to assist individuals who are experiencing common mental health concerns including depression, grief and anxiety; through group, peer to peer and through individual sessions.
Public Benefits - This program assists eligible participants in applying for medical assistance programs and other public benefits.
RSVP Volunteer Program - This program connects adults 55 and over to volunteer opportunities in the community including non-profit organizations and government agencies. Various positions are available.
Senior Centers - Senior Centers are a focal point for aging services in our community. There are many senior centers throughout Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick County providing a variety of activities including social, educational, wellness and nutrition. Each center is unique in programming and opportunities. Adults 55 and older may attend and activities are free or a low annual due may apply.
The following program is available only for individuals with disabilities who are under 60 years of age:
Physical and Occupational Therapy - This program offers persons with physical disabilities not covered by Medicare or Medicaid assistance to retain or improve range of motion and mobility
Wheelchair modifications - A program that provides wheelchair modifications for persons with severe physical disabilities for posture control and prevention of decubitus ulcers.
Employment Program - Training /assistance to individuals with physical disabilities,improving skills in order to gain and maintain employment.
